Evaluating the Groundwater and Surface Water Interaction in Southwest Iraq Using Environmental Isotopes Technique

چکیده
This study aims to use the environmental isotopes technique evaluate interaction between groundwater and surface water at a location two cities in southwest of Iraq; namely Al-Kifl Al-Samawa. The salinity Euphrates River increases sharply as it passes this area, level that affects its usage for municipal purposes. A total 111 samples were collected from rivers, drainages, springs, shallow deep wells, Sawa Lake, all subjected chemical (TDS, SO4, Cl, B) isotopic (deuterium oxygen-18) analyses. results showed no interference quality (from wells springs) Lake with water, hence, neither nor river quality. Statistically, t-test analysis significant differences among those (p-values less than 0.05 almost parameters). On other hand, drainage strong relationship which indicates high influence on when mixes water.

متن کاملIdentifying Seasonal Groundwater Recharge Using Environmental Stable Isotopes
In this study, the stable isotope values of oxygen and hydrogen were used to identify the seasonal contribution ratios of precipitation to groundwater recharge in the Hualien River basin of eastern Taiwan. The differences and correlations of isotopes in various water bodies were examined to evaluate the groundwater recharge sources for the Hualian River basin and the interrelations between grou...
متن کاملModeling surface water-groundwater interaction with MODFLOW: some considerations.
The accuracy with which MODFLOW simulates surface water-groundwater interaction is examined for connected and disconnected losing streams. We compare the effect of different vertical and horizontal discretization within MODFLOW and also compare MODFLOW simulations with those produced by HydroGeoSphere. HydroGeoSphere is able to simulate both saturated and unsaturated flow, as well as surface wa...
متن کاملGroundwater-surface water interaction and its role on TCE groundwater plume attenuation.
A field investigation of a TCE plume in a surficial sand aquifer shows that groundwater-surface water interactions strongly influence apparent plume attenuation. At the site, a former industrial facility in Connecticut, depth-discrete monitoring along three cross-sections (transects) perpendicular to groundwater flow shows a persistent VOC plume extending 700 m from the DNAPL source zone to a m...
